Harry Reid Should Resign

posted in Politics, War on Islamo-Fascism |

Both my regular readers know that I don't often comment on things that are painfully obvious, but I'm making an exception.

Harry Reid should resign.

One definition of treason is "giving aid and comfort to our enemies." When Reid said "this war is lost," he echoes what many liberals feel. However that doesn't make it true. And most people that think we've lost the war in Iraq aren't treasonous, they're just stupid liberals.

Our political leaders, however, must be held to a higher standard. I'm not saying they can't be stupid — that's their right. But Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, is quoted by al Jazeera with the observation "The US war in Iraq is lost and a further build-up of US troops in the country will not recover the situation, the senior Democrat in the US senate has said."

I'm not naive enough to believe he'd ever be prosecuted, but that his actions can be construed as giving aid and comfort to the enemy is despicable, and proof that he is ill-suited to represent his state.

Harry Reid should resign.

Why not let us know what you think by adding your own comment! Your opinion is as valid as anyone elses, so come on... let us know what you think.

I'm curious. Did you call for the resignation of Tom Delay when he spoke on the House floor and denounced the Commander in Chief (Clinton at that time), said that the mission in Bosnia was a failure (though clearly it was not), and called for all funds to be cut off for the military who were in theatre at the time? My guess is no, you didn't. Because hypocrisy is a term that most right-wingers don't seem to understand.

Delay was the majority leader of the house, troops were actively engaged in combat, and Delay said the mission was a failure. Why is it not the same? Oh, right, because George W. Bush has an (R) after his name, so criticizing him must be the same as treason. You are ridiculous.

I don't see where you have any right to say anything at all, because I bet you thought it was OK for Clinton to have oral sex in the oval office. You probably thought Juanita Broderick was lying, too; you liberals whine about "women's rights," unless it's a woman blaming an important liberal for something, and then she's just a partisan tool. You are pathetic.

And this, folks, is an example of several logical fallacies.

Let's start with Ad Hominem - Mr. Davis implies that my opinion is worthless because I'm a conservative, or because I mostly support President Bush.

It's possible he was trying for Ad Hominem Tu Quoque - I'm inconsistent in my calls for resignation, since he assumes I didn't call for DeLay's resignation.

Or maybe it was Circumstantial Ad Hominem — I'm just calling for Reid's resignation because I'm a conservative/Republican.

There's also a little bit of Begging the Question — Mr. Davis concludes that I'm a hypocrite and ridiculous, because I didn't call for DeLay's resignation, which he's certain I didn't do, because I'm a hypocrite and ridiculous.

Primarily, Mr. Davis uses Straw Man — rather than argue that Senator Reid should not resign, he makes up something about me and attacks that.

We end, of course with Appeal to Ridicule, with a little reductio ad absurdium thrown in — ridicule or mockery is substituted for reason.

And that concludes today's episode of Spanked by Logic. Let's all give Mr. Davis a round of applause; wasn't he great? Thanks for joining us!

The enemy in the war in Bosnia did not resolve to destroy Western civilization unless they submitted to their fascist theocratic ways.
    Small and subtle different, that.
